This dataset is part of the
Lippe brickmakers project.
This is a small sample taken from the Lippe brickmakers database (
https://hdl.handle.net/10622/ZKS9BA).
This sample was selected with the purpose to experiment with enriching place names with geo-data and transform them to linked open data.
The sample was chosen using the column "signatur", since we assumed that there will be a coherent way to interpret the results if we would use this column, since the archival documents within that arrangement were tied to a specific year. We randomly chose the first signature: 4698 (ARCH03497.1).
For the entries in this part of the database, we ran a reconciliation process of the "Wohin" ("where to") column using the
World Historical Gazetteer.
The resulting data is trustworthy since the reconciliation process was done between the data expert and the main researcher (Jan Lucassen). It resulted in 18 unique place names of which 11 matched to an existing place.
We can then observe, for this sample, where the Lippe brick makers went to work in the year 1802.
More information about the Lippische Ziegler project can be found in the
Lippe brickmakers project dataverse. The linked data version can be used for exploring and querying the data in this
"data story" via the linked data publication platform.
